L. Paul Bernard has more than 20 years of experience in church ministry, public education, university teaching, and clinical psychotherapy. He is the Founding and Sr. Pastor of TEN27 Church in Southern California, a School Counselor, licensed mental health professional and the lead faculty for the Department of Psychology at Azusa Pacific University’s Murrieta campus. He has served on the California Association of Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (CALPCC) Board of Directors and is a California state Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC). In addition, Paul is finishing a PhD in Advanced Study of Human Behavior.
Paul has extensive experience helping parents and teenagers to improve their relationship by showing mutual respect, developing better communication skills and resolving conflicts. He teaches parenting skills and holds workshops on topics such as "Effective Discipline," and "Boundaries with Kids." His research and experience includes working with severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescent youth experiencing adjustment and attachment issues and severe emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. He has been brought in several times as a guest panelist for Western Seminary and has been the featured speaker for local church events. Paul also spends time teaching and leading seminars. He has taught with the Institute for Christian Resources leading seminary students, pastors, and church leaders in Warsaw, Poland and in Estonia.
As mental health professional, Paul has worked at a high school in the Hemet Unified School District, serving as a licensed mental health professional. He has worked with individuals who desire a transformed life, working with adolescents and adults who deal with past issues such as; overcoming self-destructive behavior, depression, managing stress, peer pressure, marital conflict and relationship issues. He helps individuals find tools for unlocking their performance and to produce change...authentic change.
Paul and his wife, Melanie Rischer Bernard serve together as the Sr. Pastors of TEN27 Church in the Temecula/Murrieta Valley and they have 4 children.
